Position Summary:
St. Matthew Catholic Church in Durham, NC is seeking a Pastoral Associate – Faith Formation. Under the leadership of the pastor, the Pastoral Associate is responsible for guiding the parish community into an active and ongoing personal relationship with Jesus. This person will support pastoral staff in helping others come into a more intimate understanding of the Catholic faith which will grow and be lived out their entire life. The main areas the Pastoral Associate will serve are sacramental formation, ongoing catechesis, worship, renewal and formation of ministries, overview of Hispanic Ministry.
Key responsibilities:
- Selection and development of curriculum for sacramental prep, adult formation, and children and youth programs. Development of budget and calendar; coordination of retreats, mission trips, conventions; coordination of Vacation Bible School; training and recruiting catechists; and oversees OCIA
- Coordinator of parishes Safe Environment program
- Coordinate Hispanic Ministry.
Minimum Requirements:
- College degree is preferred.
- 5 or more years of experience working with youth and children.
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
- Demonstrates a spiritual maturity, defined as a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who is faithful to the Magisterium, consistent in one’s prayer life, regularly receives the sacraments, and able to speak one’s relationship with Jesus.
- Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
- Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.
