Position Summary:
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary, NC is seeking a Hispanic Faith Formation Coordinator. This is a part-time position that works with the Hispanic community and is responsible for organizing and scheduling Hispanic Faith Formation classes, meetings and events. This position works with pre-confirmation Hispanic families and participates in all facets of planning and implementation of the parish religious and formation goals.
Key responsibilities:
- Formation Department:
- Responsible for faith formation student registration and creates class assignments and attendance sheets for elementary registered students.
- Reviews curriculum as needed and modifies class syllabus annually to reflect the liturgical calendar.
- Attends Ministry & Formation, parish staff, Raleigh Deanery and diocesan meetings as requested.
- Catechists:
- Recruits and maintains a list of volunteers to support the Faith Formation program including but not limited to hall monitors, parking lot assistants and office helpers.
- Trains, assigns, and provides support to all Hispanic catechists, (including home school to ensure proper staffing for each class).
- Establishes a substitute roster of catechists and assures each classroom is properly staffed.
- Assist catechists in addressing any disciplinary problems that may arise, notifying supervisor when necessary.
- Ensures procurement of the proper materials and supplies through the year for all elementary classrooms, including textbooks and classroom supplies.
- Ensures that facilities are accessible during Faith Formation programs, monitors facility use to ensure rooms are left as they are found as well as secures the property at the end of each session.
- Builds relationships with parents, children and catechists to work in collaboration with them.
- Assists catechists with A-V equipment when needed.
- Sacraments
- Provides catechetical instruction and support for activities as needed to complete the preparation and celebration of the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion, which includes workshop and parent meetings.
- Coordinates celebrations for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and other sacraments as needed in conjunction with the Ministry & Formation Team
- Ensures that all sacramental preparation paperwork is received from students, and that the sacramental records department receives all paperwork necessary for recording.
- Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitors weekly classes for Faith Formation for Grades K-5 ensuring the safety of the students arriving and departing and making sure that no child is left unattended when session is over.
- Monitors weekly classes for Faith Formation for OCIY and OCIA ensuring the safety of the students arriving and departing
- Adheres to parish and diocesan guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safe Environment policies
- Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned, such as Staff Presence at liturgy.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be an active, fully initiated, practicing Catholic.
- Must be Bi-Lingual (Spanish/English).
- College degree preferred.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Strong relational and pastoral skills.
- Experience in educational setting and/or catechetical experience.
- Experience in basic data management, project planning, and time management.
- Experience in recruiting, motivating and mobilizing volunteers.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to use technology efficiently.
- Experience with MS Office and Publisher a plus.
- Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks.
- Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.
Position Start Date: As soon as possible
