On Tuesday, Nov. 2, Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama celebrated a Mass for Deceased Bishops and Priests on the grounds of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Newton Grove. The Mass was held on All Souls Day or what’s known in Latin America as Día de los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead.”
Students from Raleigh’s Cardinal Gibbons High School and St. Thomas More Academy joined in celebrating Mass outdoors in the Irish cemetery where many diocesan priests are buried including former diocesan leaders Bishop Vincent Waters and Bishop F. Joseph Gossman.
“This celebration of All Souls Day reminds us of our true purpose and true goals here on Earth,” said Bishop Luis. “Experiencing the sun and sky, the colors and sounds of nature also provides a taste of the amazing beauty we hope to experiment in everlasting life.”
