Position Summary:
St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Wake Forest, NC is seeking a Physical Education Teacher / Athletic Director to join the team. This position is considered full-time for those applying for both PE Teacher and Athletic Director (approximately 37.5 hours).
If you are interested in applying for the PE teacher opening only, the position will entail approximately 27 hours per week. If you are interested in applying for only the Athletic Director opening, that position will entail approximately 10 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- PE Teacher:
- Set up equipment prior to class.
- Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Prepare and implement lesson plans for PE classes and middle school elective class(es).
- Establish and enforce rules of conduct.
- Participate in school-wide behavioral programs, document student behavior and make necessary referrals.
- Demonstrate skills being taught; assist students in performing the skills.
- Teach safety rules related to each activity.
- Research and order physical education and recess equipment.
- Plan, organize and coordinate field day; develop activities, set up for activities and communicate the schedule and needs to the front office.
- Monitor and evaluate student skill levels and outcomes.
- Maintain student records following established procedures and practices.
- Prepare interim progress reports and report cards.
- Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Serve on special committees and fulfill responsibilities of a committee member.
- Attending planning meetings, team meetings, staff meetings, data meetings and other meetings of groups according to membership in those groups.
- Monitor use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Prepare lesson plans and materials for substitute teachers; include class lists and any special instructions related to student’s special needs.
- Create emergency lesson plans as required.
- Maintain regular, on-time attendance.
- Knowledge of emergency plans for the school, such as lockdown procedures.
- Participate in fire drills as required.
- May be asked to become involved in community initiatives, such as “Fun Run” or other fitness-related community activities.
- Athletic Director:
- Provide Leadership to all participants involved in St. Catherine’s School athletics.
- Adhere to the by-laws of the TCSAC (Triangle Catholic Schools Athletic Conference).
- Ensure all required paperwork for students to participate is submitted to front office staff and up to date.
- Encourage and maintain proper balance between athletics and academics by implementing student athlete policy to be created in coordination with school Administration.
- Schedule all practices and games, which includes securing location, referees, and officials.
- Provide team roster(s), schedule(s) and directions to school front office staff and school principal.
- Secure coaches, with input from school Administration, ensuring they meet requirements (criminal background check and safe environment training.
- Provide schedules and directions to coaches, ensuring appropriate and timely communication to both participants and parents/guardians.
- Maintain financial records and comply with allotted budget for athletic program.
- Provide up to date information to be posted on the school website and social media accounts.
- Provide equipment, first aid kits, AED’s and scorebooks to coaches.
- Delegate additional responsibilities to coaches, team volunteers and others regarding uniforms, equipment, forms, and year-end sports banquet.
- Provide leadership for the Color Run event.
- Keep Administration informed of the programs with frequency.
- Collaborate, as necessary, with other athletic directors/members of the TCSAC.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education or a related field (not required if only applying for Athletic Director position).
- Current NC licensure or an out-of-state equivalent.
- Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks.
- Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training prior to the start date.
