Mother Teresa Catholic Mission celebrated the feast day of St. Teresa of Calcutta Sept. 5 in Cary. An outdoor Mass, held on the field in front of Green Hope High School, drew 300. The faithful observed Mother Teresa’s role as a universal symbol of God's merciful and preferential love for the poor and forgotten.
As part of the celebration, the community collected 4,379 pounds of non-perishable food, almost 200 pounds of health care products, more than 300 children's books and $5,225 in monetary donations for the Durham Community Food Pantry.
"It’s a remarkable milestone we celebrate this Saturday, in these COVID days, in the place that has been home to our Mother Teresa Community for 20 years. It was the first time our congregation could gather and worship together as a community since mid-March,” Father Daniel Oschwald, pastor, said. “[Today] symbolizes the heroic virtue of our community. Mother Teresa showed us it's truly possible to bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, and endure all things — even in a pandemic. The hallmark of her spirituality, ‘I thirst,’ has become the driving force in our community’s desire to grow in the ways of Christ.”
